Site history

Depending on the grade, coal is mostly carbon and is therefore a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. It is also rich in other major pollutants, such as sulfur, mercury, radioactive elements etc.

Fortunately, little coal or coke is imported into Cyprus. The EIA quotes 0.1 million short tons and the ITC about $2.6 million worth of coal and coal products and the WRI quotes 21,000 tonnes of oil-equivalent.

It is therefore proposed not to offer a specific essay on this subject, but it is mentioned here just to complete the section on fossil fuels.
