Since the Republic of Cyprus entered into the European Union, it is
undergoing a crisis of conscience. In many ways, it is not up to
European standards as far as the environment or energy is concerned,
although it has made some efforts towards a sustainable future.
Of course, this site refers to the Republic of Cyprus alone, as the voting of
24 April 2004 has excluded the North from sharing in the entry to the EU.
Without entering into the political situation, which is outside the scope of
this site, it can be hoped that reunification will become the will of the
people.
This site consists of a series of essays on a current evaluation and how it
would be possible to improve the situation. These pages express my own opinion,
based on a long experience of environmental engineering, observations made over
a number of years and on discussions with others. Most of the pages have been
modified and up-dated for this 2008 edition and some new pages added.
Everyone is invited to participate in discussions on environmental or energy
matters within Cyprus (or elsewhere) in our
Forum or
comment on the website itself. Equally, all are welcome to help in developing
the EEWiki,
which is a kind of open-ended encyclopaedia covering specifically the contents
of this and other sites, in an easy-to-understand format. Please help to expand
this.
